  1. In the history of bubbles, the recent folly in Iceland will get prominent mention. In a Vanity Fair article, Michael Lewis writes about how a tiny nation famous for glaciers, hot springs and volcanoes became in effect a giant hedge fund employing huge leverage with familiar results. I found the link through the Stingy Investor website.
  2. With many investor portfolios reeling from the stock market slump a lot of blame (whether real or imagined) is directed towards financial advisors. This New York Times article describes what clients should (and shouldn’t) expect from their advisors.
  3. Larry MacDonald shares some tips for toughing out the market turmoil.
  4. Canadian Banks & Insurance blog posted analyst comments on the quarterly earnings from our big banks: Bank of Nova Scotia, Bank of Montreal, TD Bank, CIBC and Royal Bank.
  5. Michael James discusses Warren Buffett’s solution for preventing a repeat of the mortgage crisis.
  6. Million Dollar Journey has a frugal tip: Sleep on it!
  7. Preet posted an interesting chart of long-term stock returns that shows how much of an outlier 2008 was.
  8. Gail Vaz-Oxlade has a no-nonsense take on the economic turmoil.
  9. Financial Highway is doing a series of posts on the basics of financial planning.
  10. Dividend Growth Investor has a way to invest in the stock market with no risk!
