When Alexey Saltykov, a consultant for insurance companies, crashed a rental car, he was under the impression that he was covered by the credit card he had used to rent the car. Much to his dismay, it did not and Mr. Saltykov had to pay the expenses to fix the car out of his own pocket. The ordeal left him wondering if others had as much trouble with insurance and he founded InsureEye to help everyone understand and manage their insurance protection.

The InsureEye website currently offers two very useful credit card tools: a navigator and a selector. The credit card navigator tool allows you to select the credit cards you currently have and display its features such as interest rate, annual fee and benefits such as auto, travel and other. The table is colour coded to indicate both included and optional benefits. When you hover the mouse over the table the tool brings up more information on the feature selected. I thought the credit card comparison tool was particularly handy because it tells you at a glance which of the credit cards in your wallet you should use to pay for a car rental and which one to pay for a vacation. While InsureEye currently has more than 150 credit cards in its database, it may not have information on legacy credit cards. For example, I was not able to find out more information on the American Express Costco Card which is no longer offered.

The website also features a credit card selector. Are you looking for a no-fee credit card that offers trip cancellation insurance? The selector tells you that the Desjardins VISA Elegance Gold is pretty much your only choice. If you relax your criterion to include credit cards with annual fees, the selection set is much larger. In a recent interview, Mr. Saltykov said that InsureEye does not currently receive referral fees from credit card providers.
