Canada’s fiscal situation is envied and widely praised these days. But in the 1990s, Canada was in a much poorer shape. This Royal Canadian Air Farce skit by the peerless John Morgan explains our national debt then:

  1. Harry Dent is out with a new set of predictions again. Jon Chevreau takes a look at how Mr. Dent’s past predictions panned out and says that listening to him will most likely put a Dent in your portfolio.
  2. Preet Banerjee says that as long as your financial goals are being met, go ahead and enjoy that cup of latte.
  3. Mike Holman lists seven of the trickiest aspects of RESPs in this Globe and Mail article.
  4. As gold nears the $1,500 per ounce level, Kevin of Invest It Wisely takes a look at some of the trends behind the recent move in the price of gold.
  5. Northern Raven tweaked the Sleepy Portfolio to suit his investment needs and explains the changes he made and why.
  6. Michael James paid more attention to a recent offer from Bell that I did (I chucked it into the shredder) and finds that taking up on what appears to be an attractive offer means giving up hard cold cash at a later date.
  7. Larry MacDonald highlights an article that finds that Martha Stewart’s portfolio reveals a lot about how average people invest. It’s easy to laugh at Martha Stewart but I bet a lot of portfolios looked awfully like her’s at the end of the 90s.
  8. Canadian Couch Potato offers a handy thumb rule for how much risk to take in a RESP.
  9. Million Dollar Journey offers some handy tips on how to save money on winter snow tires.
  10. Canadian Personal Finance stuff speaks from personal experience when he says that when it comes to bank, everything is negotiable.
  11. Canadian Money Forum members are reporting that Home and Auto insurance premiums are still going up.

I’m unable to highlight all the articles worth checking out in my weekly round up but you can check them out through my Twitter feed. Have a great weekend everyone!
