In this interview, Larry Swedroe talks about alternative investments that belong to a portfolio and those that do not. The interesting parts in the clip start around the 3:00 minute mark.

  1. If you are book lover as I am, you’d be pleased to hear that Amazon and Chapters have set the threshold for free shipping at $25. That’s down from the previous minimum of $39.
  2. Preet says that three months worth of expenses in a high interest savings account is an ample emergency fund reserve for most people.
  3. Larry Swedroe says that leveraged inverse ETFs do not provide an effective hedge in a declining market.
  4. In a column in Canadian Business, Larry MacDonald argues that Chinese mercantilism is pushing the world economy to the edge of the precipice.
  5. Canadian Financial Stuff opened his monthly statement from Bell and found some mysterious charges.
  6. Thicken My Wallet says that these three mistakes should be avoided when making a will.
  7. Canadian Couch Potato offers some suggestions for parking cash in your portfolio. Personally, I use the Renaissance High Interest Account (ATL5000) to park cash in my brokerage account at TD Waterhouse. No fees and no minimum holding period.
  8. Million Dollar Journey featured a guest post on four critical mistakes when it comes to planning for retirement. ‘Not saving enough’ would have be top item on my list.
  9. Money Smarts Blog isn’t very impressed with a newly launched online tool that promises to save investment fees.
  10. Michael James wonders if better mutual fund fee disclosures will help investors pay attention to fees.
  11. My Own Advisor shared an inspiring story of an investor who amassed a fortune through dividend investing. (But keep in mind that such results are atypical).

I’m unable to highlight all the articles worth checking out in my weekly round up but you can check them out through my Twitter feed. Have a great weekend everyone!
